Jimmie Johnson extended his points lead as he won the race at Phoenix this afternoon. Johnson led 217 of 313 laps to stretch his lead to 141 points which means he has only to finish 36th or better at Homestead in Miami to capture his third straight title. Many people do not realize how tough that is too do. Winning three straight Nextel Cup Championships is really tough. if you do not believe that just go back to see how many teams who won a championship lost the following year.

ks ago tempers would flare, but they seem to both know exactly what is at stake. 

 Jimmie Johnson for sure has got this Championship! This team has the momentum coming into the Chase.  They were in this same postition just last year.  Not to mention Hendrick seems to be collectively doing a lot better!

gave half the credit to his own car and half to his help from teammate Jimmie Johnson. Winning the second Gatorade 150, Denny Hamlin received assistance from teammate Tony Stewart; who, in turn, won the Camping World 300 aided by teammate Kyle Busch. And, of course, Kurt Busch played a part in Ryan Newman's 500 victory.

January 15, he was clocked at 185.820 mph on a single lap, while teammate (and reigning Cup champ) Jimmie Johnson only managed to pull off 184.782 mph in the previous week's testing.

We Dale Jr. fans knew all along he had championship potential; it just lay dormant the past couple seasons at DEI. Talk circulated among the racing community that DEI was spending money in places other than technology and equipment--the two areas in which Hendrick has dominated. And if that's the case, current up-and-coming drivers at DEI like Martin Truex Jr. and Paul Menard are undoubtedly of championship caliber as well.

First up he has moved from DEI to Hendrick Motorsports and has two high profiled teammates in Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon. Plenty of pressure will be on Junior to do as well as the other two. Junior had a very disappointing season last year and he wants to show people he can still win and he wants that championship that
