Understanding the Somewhat Complex Mark Martin posted on 01/06/2008
Many could not understand the concept, how could a driver who brought on a photo finish at the Daytona 500, seemed destined to finally the "Cup," just walk away. He was on fire, how could he?
But Mark Martin knew what he wanted and stuck to that plan, racing only 26 times - period! It is that determination that frustrated fans and earned him respect at the same time. It would have been easy for anyone who began a season so well to have a change of heart and go for it anyway, but standing by his decision he let his skeptics have their say. He was happy to be at home with his family and help with his son's racing career.
As the 2008 season begins, Martin will share the #8 car with rookie Aric Almirola, he is looking forward to the season, a schedule similar to last year - racing when he wants to and enjoying the best of both worlds.
