Bill Lester has secured a ride for the 2009 racing season in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series. He will be driving the entire season in the Crown Royal Cask #16 for Victory Junction – Orbit Racing. It will be nice to see him on the race track competing once again and showcasing his talent amongst the series elite drivers.
He will make his debut at Daytona in the Rolex 24 during the weekend of January 24 -25, 2009.
“I’m extremely excited about this opportunity,” Lester said. “I was looking to run full time with a team running for the championship, and that’s what this team provides. Victory Junction – Orbit Racing has all the right components, and I think I will give the team an excellent opportunity to be very successful this season.” (www.racingone.com)
Bill Lester drove full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series during the 2004 season for Bill Davis Racing. He piloted the #22 Toyota Tundra and he had a number of successful moments while driving for Bill Davis Racing. Two of those successful moments occurred when he captured career poles at Kansas Speedway and Kentucky Speedway. One of the best career highlights and most significant came in March 2006 when Bill was able to make his first NASCAR Nextel Cup Series debut competing at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He drove an additional Cup race in June 2006 at Michigan International Speedway.
Upon completion of a three year driving tenure at Bill Davis Racing, he received the opportunity to drive for Billy Ballew Motorsports piloting the #15 Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Craftsmen Truck Series; however, that was short-lived due to lack of sponsorship for the full racing season. It will be interesting to see where this opportunity once again takes Bill Lester in the racing industry. He has competed in a number of racing series with phenomenal success; therefore, it would be good to see him competing back in the top tiers of the NASCAR Series.
Until next time…
